Kommuners trafikstrategier och användning av hållbarhetsindikatorer

Author

Summary, in English

Within the framework of HASTA, a systematic study was conducted about Swedish municipalities’ traffic strategies and use of sustainability indicators to follow up the work on a sustainable transport system. This report analyzes the work of the municipalities with a traffic strategy in order to examine if the municipalities use sustainability indicators or not. Furthermore, the report analyzes in which areas and to what extent sustainability indicators are used by the different municipalities. Moreover, other studies which have been conducted in Sweden are analyzed in order to verify the results from this report.

In this report it became clear that there are only a few municipalities in Sweden which have a traffic strategy and even less that use sustainability indicators. Additionally, there is a large variation between the municipalities when it comes to the number of indicators used. Furthermore, there seems to be a lack of understanding of what the word indicator means, given that the municipalities use the word in different ways and mean different things. It seems to be necessary to coordinate the work with sustainability indicators and to clarify the meaning of the word sustainability indicator.
