Vad har väl bönderna att klaga över? En studie av problemen på landsbygden i Folkrepubliken Kina

Author

  • Aron Johansson

Summary, in English

Since Hu Jintao and Wen Jiabao took office the focus of the Chinese government has been less on pure economic development than before and more on developing the countryside. This paper investigates some of the problems the central government sees in the countryside as well as some of their solutions to those problems. The book The Grain People: Will China’s Villages Disappear? (Liangmin-Zhongguo nongcun hui xiaoshi ma? 粮民-中国农村会消失吗?) has been used when investigating the rural population’s own views on the problems it confronts, and the investigation concentrates especially on the so-called Construction of a New Socialist Countryside, the effects of urbanization and the inequality between urban- and rural residents. It is concluded that even though the government has put extensive efforts into solving the problems in the countryside, there are still problems with implementing the reforms and a lot remains to be done before the problems can be thoroughly solved.
