Pulse Generator with Gated Tunnel Diode

Author

Summary, in English

We report on the implementation and performance of a pulse generator based on a gated tunnel diode that has been integrated with a wave-guide oscillator. The gate is used to modulate the magnitude of the negative differential resistance in the gated tunnel diode and to control the oscillations in the circuit. In particular, it can be used to create short pulses of oscillations by turning the oscillator on and off. This is a key requirement for the impulse radio ultra wide band system.
