Become a student health and safety representative

Would you like to represent other students in issues that concern their work environment? If so, becoming a student health and safety representative might be something for you.

The role of student health and safety representative

Student health and safety representatives represent themselves and their fellow students in work environment issues.

As a student health and safety representative, you will work for all the students included in your area of responsibility. You will be given the opportunity to participate in the University’s systematic work environment management by taking part in safety inspections and serving on health and safety committees, for example.

Student health and safety representatives are not in any way responsible for the student work environment and therefore are not held accountable for shortcomings or if measures to improve it are not implemented. Responsibility for the work environment always lies with the University and ultimately, the Vice-Chancellor.

Training for student health and safety representatives

Lund University holds regular training sessions for all student health and safety representatives. The Student Health Centre provides the training in conjunction with the Student Ombudsman and Lund University’s Students’ Unions (LUS).

The training consists of two parts:

  • An online course hosted on Canvas.
  • A teacher-led session where you will have the opportunity to discuss different situations and exchange experiences with other student health and safety representatives.

Contact work environment coordinator Marie Gruvhammar at the Student Health Centre for information on when the next training session will be held.

How to become a student health and safety representative

Student health and safety representatives are elected through your student union.

If you have any questions about how and when this happens, contact your student union.
