University and student nation scholarships
When to apply
Twice a year – usually in February and September – current Lund University students are invited to apply for University and nation scholarships.
The spring semester 2017 application period for university and nation scholarships is now closed. Results will be announced during April in the scholarship application system. The next application period is expected to open in September 2017. Please note that we only accept applications submitted during the application period.
Who can apply?
- The University scholarships are awarded to undergraduate and Master’s students.
- The student nation scholarships are awarded to undergraduate, Master’s and research students.
You often need to have studied for at least two semesters at Lund University to get a scholarship. Also note that most of the scholarships are only open to Swedish students due to the nature of the scholarship set up (eg connections to a Swedish family name, Swedish city etc). However, there are some scholarships that are open to international students currently studying at Lund University.
How to apply for a University or student nation scholarship
The University and nation scholarships are a collection of about 250 scholarships; however, you only make one application for the University and nation scholarships as your application will be matched with all of the scholarships that you are eligible for.
Applications are made through the online application system. Note that although most of the text in the application form is available in English, the text in the initial drop down menu is not. To choose "University and student nation scholarships" select "Universitets- och nationsstipendier".
How we select scholarship recipients
Applicants are ranked according to field, grades and study tempo. Only credits from Lund University are counted. Since your Lund University credits are registered in Ladok (a computer system for documentation of study results) you don't need to submit any documents proving your academic record.
Please check with your department that all your credits have been entered into Ladok. Please also check that your official Swedish personal identification number is recorded in Ladok (not the temporary personal number you were given when you first arrived in Sweden). To view and update your contact details in Ladok, please log in to the student portal.
Some of the University and student nation scholarships give priority to, for example, students who are members of a particular nation, students who are born in Lund or students who are studying a particular subject. In some cases, you might need to provide supporting documents to demonstrate that you fulfill certain criteria, if so, you will find information about this in the application system.
Decision and payment
Decisions are usually announced in April for the spring semester and November for the autumn semester. Please note that no notifications will be sent out via email, but the results will be available in the online application system. Payment will thereafter be made to the account you stated in your application.
Be careful how you enter the clearing code (often a 4-5 digit code, also called bank code or routing number) and account number in your application. The most common reason that students have problems receiving their scholarship money is that the clearing number is incorrectly specified as part of the account number. If you do not have a Swedish account number, please contact stipendier [at] eken.lu.se.
Previously awarded scholarships
In spring 2016 there were 1,119 applicants, of whom 235 were awarded a scholarship. The amounts varied from SEK 1,000 to SEK 42,000 (with a mean value of SEK 7,700). The total amount distributed was SEK 2,060 100.
In autumn 2015 there were 819 applicants, of whom 236 were awarded a scholarship. The amounts varied from SEK 1,000 to SEK 42,000 and the total amount distributed was SEK 2,033 694.
