Internet connections

There are several ways for students to connect to the internet and access the resources offered by Lund University.

Wireless network

You can access internet through the wireless network Eduroam. Log in to Eduroam with your student account username (adding '@lu.se' at the end) and your student account password.

For example, if your student account username is pe3584ha-s, your user ID for Eduroam will be pe3584ha-s [at] lu [dot] se. You also need to set up (configure) your device for Eduroam. Learn more about wireless internet connections via Eduroam:

VPN – Virtual Private Network

VPN is a technology that enables you to log in to the University’s computer network wherever you are in the world. You can thus gain access to the Lund University network despite using another operator.

The VPN gives you an IP-address belonging to Lund University. This means that you are considered to be directly connected to the network, which is required for certain services.

Accessing databases and e-journals databases

Students have access to certain databases and e-journals through the University Library (UB).

If you are using a computer on the Lund University network or have established a VPN, you will automatically be connected to the databases/e-journals.

If you are using a computer that is not connected to the Lund University network, you will be redirected to an identification page, where you have to enter your student account username and password.

Internet access and your accommodation

If you are a tenant with LU Accommodation or AF Bostäder, internet is included in your rent. The standard is wired internet, where your computer is connected to a network port with a network cable. Wireless internet is usually not included; if you wish to have wireless internet you can purchase a router at your own cost.

If you have private accommodation or housing with one of the student nations, please check with your landlord or student nation for information about internet access.

Mobile broadband

For students who do not have an internet connection at home, mobile broadband through your mobile phone contract is another option. Mobile broadband is available from all mobile operators. Contract length and terms may vary. There are operators who offer free modem contracts. We suggest you check with different mobile operators for prices and terms in order to find out which option best suits your needs.
