Description

The Unit for Psychiatric Epidemiology and Public Health studies subject areas such as psychotic disorders, suicidology, substance use disorders, and neuropsychiatric conditions using classical and modern epidemiological methods. These issues are examined both from a clinical perspective, with traditional research questions regarding risk factors, outcomes, survival, and pharmacoepidemiology, and from a public health perspective with focus on healthcare systems, policy decisions, and societal changes. The research is based mainly on the diversity of register data that can be obtained from Swedish national databases as well as publicly available data from authorities and other organizations. A clear methodological direction for the research group is to apply advanced methods such as Bayesian statistics, econometric panel data models, causal inference, and computational science methods to research questions with direct relevance for patient outcomes and clinical practice.
