This course introduces digital methods for working with historical texts, especially those found in manuscripts. You learn how texts are transcribed, edited, and digitally presented. You also explore different types of projects where researchers, libraries, and archives collaborate to make premodern texts available to both scholars and the public. 

The course is offered online and is an international collaboration between researchers in Sweden, Italy, Germany, and Belgium.

You study various digital tools and resources. Through practical assignments, you learn how these resources are used in working with textual materials, databases, and digital editions. The course includes both theoretical instruction and hands-on activities. 

This course provides a solid foundation for further studies in digital humanities, philology, archival and library studies, as well as projects focused on making cultural heritage digitally accessible.

If students have equal credentials, seats are allocated based on their results on The Swedish National University Aptitude Test. If this too is equal, seats are allocated based on a draw.
