Application dates

This course teaches you how satellite sensors can reveal things we cannot see with the naked eye. You will gain theoretical knowledge and practical experience in working with satellite data and GIS. You will also learn how to find and manage satellite data, and how to use GIS to analyze it.

The course is entirely online and flexible, so you can study and follow the course at your own pace. The course consists of lectures and practical exercises. The examination takes place throughout the course through written assignments and a project work.

The course consists of six modules:

  • Radiation theory 
  • Classification algorithms of high-resolution satellite data
  • Land use classification and accuracy assessment
  • Using satellite data to monitor phenology (vegetation development during a vegetation season)
  • Change analysis of a 20-year satellite data time series
  • Downloading and managing free satellite data

Prerequisites

90 ECTS credits including a course corresponding to GISA11 GIS: Advanced Geographical Data Structuring, 10 ECTS credits. English 6/English Course B.

Seats are allocated according to: ECTS (HPAV): 100 %.
