The Economic Development specialisation focuses on the dynamics of growth and transformation in emerging economies. You will explore why development succeeds in some regions and stalls in others, studying theories, debates, and empirical evidence. Key themes include income growth, distribution, and institutional change. You will gain skills in both qualitative and quantitative analysis, including econometrics and modelling, and learn to apply these tools to real-world development challenges. The first year provides core courses on emerging economies, Asia-Pacific, institutional analysis, and research design. In the second year, you can tailor your studies through electives, advanced tutorials, and an optional internship. This specialisation prepares you to assess development strategies and contribute to policy and research aimed at fostering sustainable growth.
