System failure, power cuts and financial difficulties are just a few examples of the type of crises that can affect an organisation. This course explores how organisations can manage risks and strengthen security to avoid crises. You will gain practical tools for understanding risk management from perspectives in social sciences, business administration, and the humanities. When a crisis happens, communication is often crucial. Therefore, the course also introduces you to methods for effective crisis communication.

Course literature SMAA40 (PDF, New tab)The course includes lectures, workshops, study visits, and role-playing exercises. You will also meet guest speakers from outside the university and work with real-life scenarios in collaboration with external partners.
After completing the course, you will be able to assess risks in an organisation and plan actions to reduce or avoid them. You will also be able to create crisis and communication plans for situations that escalate or take unexpected turns.
Prerequisites
To be admitted to the course, students must satisfy the general admission requirements and have successfully completed at least 60 credits.
Selection criteria
Seats are allocated according to the following: The general average (GPA) of your higher secondary school leaving certificate: 40 %, The Swedish national university aptitude test: 10 %, number of previous ECTS at application deadline (up to 165): 50 %.

are required to pay tuition fees. You pay an instalment of the tuition fee in advance of each
semester.
