Understanding society means looking at it from different angles. This programme combines theory, research methods, and practical skills to help you analyse complex social issues. You will start with core themes, then tailor your studies with electives, methods, and even an internship or study abroad.

The programme focuses on understanding the forces that shape modern societies. You will explore themes such as knowledge and beliefs, climate and sustainability, social inequality, and digital life. Alongside these topics, you will develop strong analytical and research skills that prepare you for advanced studies or professional roles in a range of sectors.

The Department of Sociology

The course is offered by the Department of Sociology in the picturesque Paradiset campus area in Lund. The building combines modern lecture halls, group rooms, and study spaces – just a short walk from the Social Sciences Library (Sambib) and the University Library (UB), several popular cafés and the city centre.

You will learn through lectures, seminars, and group work in an active research environment. The programme encourages discussion and critical thinking. You will work closely with researchers and have the chance to tailor parts of your studies to your interests.

Graduates are well prepared for PhD studies in sociology or related fields. You will also be qualified to work in government, NGOs, or private organisations in roles such as policy analyst, project manager, or research officer. Your skills in analysis and problem-solving will be valuable in any sector dealing with social change.
