The course comprises 5 ECTS credits and teaching takes place on site. It is conducted at half speed (50%) and runs for 7 weeks during the autumn term.
The course is conducted remotely with professionally pre-recorded video lectures. The lectures are available on the course website together with related reading material. Watching the video lectures is not compulsory but is recommended in order to get the most out of the course. The course is divided into four (4) modules. At the end of each module, there is a self-correcting test based on the content of the module, and a passing grade on the test is required to continue to the next module. The examination consists of an essay. If you have any questions before or during the course, please don’t hesitate to call or email us, and we will be happy to help you.
The course is suitable for those who want to supplement their education and are curious about how the increased use of AI affects the application of Swedish and international law.
The course deals with fundamental issues concerning the relationship between AI and law. A central part of the course is to identify both current and potential challenges and opportunities that arise when AI and law meet. Furthermore, the course aims to highlight key issues, such as how legal certainty and accountability are affected when AI is used in legal decision-making.

Professionally pre-recorded video lectures with accompanying reading material are available on the course website, which you can view at your convenience.
Examination
To complete the course, you must pass the self-correcting tests for each module. The final part of the course is a compulsory essay related to the material covered. The final grade is based on the result of the essay.
Early termination
If you do not wish to complete the course, you have the option of early termination, by withdrawing within three weeks of the starting date. Early termination allows you to reapply for the course. If you withdraw later, you cannot reapply for the course. You can either withdraw early via student.ladok.se or by sending an email to JXAA01 [at] jur [dot] lu [dot] se.
Re-registration
You must re-register if you wish to retake a course that you were previously registered for and did not complete.
You can only be re-registered if there is space available and during a term when the course is being offered. Our online courses are almost always full. In that case, re-registration is not possible.
However, if you wish to be examined on any of the papers, you do not need to re-register. In that case, please contact us.
Crediting
This course cannot be included in or credited towards a law degree at Lund University.
Prerequisites
General requirements
Selection criteria
Priority is given to applicants who have applied before deadline and are registered to a course or a programme at Lunds University the semester before this course starts. After that seats are allocated according to the following: The general average (GPA) of your higher secondary school leaving certificate: 34 %, The Swedish national university aptitude test: 34 %, number of previous ECTS at application deadline (up to 165): 32 %. If students have equal credentials, seats are allocated based on their results on The Swedish National University Aptitude Test. If this too is equal, seats are allocated based on a draw.
Tuition fees for non-EU/EEA citizens
Citizens of countries outside:
- The European Union (EU)
- The European Economic Area (EEA) and
- Switzerland
are required to pay tuition fees. You pay an instalment of the tuition fee in advance of each
semester.
