The Bachelor's programme in Fine Art is a three-year programme. Here you will develop an independent way of working as an artist. You will have access to your own studio throughout the programme and receive individual supervision from professors and teachers. At the same time, you will study courses in technique, design, theory and art history.

During the first year, you will be introduced to the school's workshops and working methods and learn the basics of a range of different techniques.

From the second semester onwards, you choose which courses you want to study in depth. The range of courses varies from year to year. This gives you the opportunity to create an education that follows your artistic direction, while receiving support in trying out new expressions and methods.

During your studies, you will develop and exhibit your artistic work in various contexts. To graduate, you will complete an independent degree project. This consists of artwork, a text and a group exhibition in the Academy of Fine Arts' gallery. The degree project summarises your artistic process and trains you in presenting your artistry.

The programme has a distinct international character thanks to its internationally active professors, with a focus on preparing you to work in both national and international art contexts.

After graduation, you are eligible to apply for a master's programme i

During your studies, you will work continuously in your own studio, which is the starting point for your artistic process. Here you can develop ideas, work practically with materials and try out different methods. You will receive regular individual supervision, where the dialogue between you and the teacher is central to your development.

The school's workshops are staffed by experienced technicians and teachers who help you work safely and professionally. You have access to workshops for:

  • Wood
  • Metal
  • Ceramics
  • Analogue and digital photography
  • Video and film (16mm)
  • Plaster

Studio work is complemented by courses and workshops in technique, design, and theory. The course selection changes every year. This allows us to offer a wide range of current courses and create encounters with different artistic practices and theories. This creates a dynamic environment where different artistic perspectives meet and are discussed. During the programme, you will participate in group exhibitions, both in the school's galleries and in your studio in connection with our annual exhibition.

Through supervision, practical experiments, and critical reflection, you will gradually build your own artistic voice and gain a solid foundation for professional artistic work.

After graduation, you will have developed an independent artistic practice and a broad understanding of both the practical and theoretical aspects of artistic work. You will have experience working long-term in a studio, presenting works in exhibitions, and formulating your ideas in text and conversation. You will also receive training in economics and law to learn more about running an artistic business.

Our former students often work as professional artists, with exhibitions and projects in Sweden and internationally, or combine their practice with work in teaching, workshop technology or cultural production.

The degree qualifies you to apply for master's programmes in fine art, both at the Malmö Art Academy and other art academies. This allows you to continue developing your artistic direction and strengthen your position in the professional art world.

When applying for this programme, you need to submit work samples.
