The course offers you the opportunity to develop skills to do research based on data collected in the field. You will team up to investigate a research problem that is directly relevant to Informatics. The team should work together to identify an interesting and researchable phenomena and aim to add knowledge and value to the field of Informatics. This requires formulating concrete research questions and using relevant theories to guide the data collection process.
During data collection, you can choose from different research methods including qualitative, quantitative, and also design science. The main findings are finally reported in a thesis which is written in an academic way that is supported by evidence and easy to read and understand.

Course literature INFM12 (PDF, New tab)During the course, you will participate in lectures, seminars and supervision.
A key part of the course is the close collaboration between you, your partner, and your supervisor. You will have regular meetings where your supervisor will guide and support you through the writing process.
You will also present your work at thesis seminars, where you will receive feedback from supervisors and fellow students to help improve your thesis.
The course ends with a final thesis defence, where you present and defend your completed research.

Prerequisites
Admission to the course requires English 6 and a bachelor’s degree in informatics/information systems along with 30 second-cycle credits in informatics/information systems and the completed course "Informatics: Research Methods in Information Systems", or the equivalent.
