The aim of this master’s programme is to strengthen the student’s historical knowledge and theoretical understanding of relations between literature, culture in general and modern media. Consequently, the literary text is studied from an intercultural and interdisciplinary perspective.

The programme offers nine different specializations: in Scandinavian studies and in Children's and Adolescent, English, French, General, German, Russian, Spanish, and Yiddish literature.

The programme consists of compulsory courses in English and individually selected courses within the various language orientations. Some courses are theoretical, discussing aesthetic and cultural topics of a general nature, while others are focused on specific literary genres, themes or historical periods. Critical attention is also given to the many forms in which literature enters the media and the public sphere in contemporary society.

The full programme comprises two years of study, but if you choose, you can take just one year. In both cases, the final examination consists of writing a Master’s thesis in Literature – Culture – Media.

The teaching consists of lectures, seminars, and independent work. You will have the opportunity to specialize in a specific area and complete the programme with a thesis in your chosen specialisation.

After graduation, you can continue with doctoral studies or work in fields related to literature, culture, and media. The programme equips you with the skills required to participate in research and development work or to work independently in qualified professions.
