Lund University has improved its standing among the world's top 100 universities in the QS World University Rankings 2027. The University is ranked 71st overall and number one in the sustainability category.

For several years, Lund University has been ranked among the top 100 institutions in the world and is placed 71st this year, making it the highest ranked university in Sweden.

”This result confirms the high quality that characterises Lund University’s research, education and international collaborations. Being ranked highest in Sweden while remaining strong internationally shows that together we are creating world class knowledge and innovation,” says Erik Renström, Vice-Chancellor of Lund University.

The university has climbed one place compared to last year and has risen a total of 24 positions over the last four years.

”Over the past year, we have taken clear steps towards more active collaboration with companies and organisations, locally, regionally as well as globally. We are now intensifying our efforts to find joint solutions to society’s major challenges, something that ranking institutions are also taking note of,” says Erik Renström.

The QS World University Rankings are based on several indicators, such as Citations per Faculty, International Research Network, and Sustainability. The most heavily weighted indicators are Academic Reputation and Employer Reputation, which together account for 45 per cent of the total score. These are based on annual reputation surveys conducted by QS, targeting academics and employers worldwide who are asked to share their views on the world’s leading universities.

Lund University ranks within the global top 50 in the following areas:

  • Sustainability, rank 1 (previous year: 3)
  • International Research Network, rank 33 (previous year: 35)
