Join a world-class university dedicated to understanding, explaining and improving our world and the human condition. Lund University is consistently ranked among the world's leading universities.

Founded in 1666, it is a world-class institution renowned for academic excellence, global engagement, sustainability and graduate employability.

With four campuses, nine faculties and 46,000 students, we offer an exceptional environment for scholarly development.

Lund University upholds the core values of the European academic community, as outlined in the Magna Charta Universitatum, emphasising autonomy and academic freedom.

At a time when freedom in research and education are under increasing pressure, Lund University remains steadfast in its commitment to academic freedom, international collaboration and high standards. Being ranked number one in the world in sustainability reflects the long-term values that characterise our work, as well as this initiative.

Vice-Chancellor Erik Renström

Our Global Excellence Programme

The Lund University Programme for Global Excellence focuses on world-leading research in strategic priority areas and reflects Lund University's long-term commitment to shaping global research.

The programme includes two appointment tracks:

  • assistant professor positions (biträdande universitetslektorer, BUL) awarded annually
  • visiting professorships offered every other year.

In its current cycle, the programme covers assistant professor appointments in 2026 and 2027 and visiting professor appointments in 2027.

Global Research Fellows 2026

This part of the programme focuses on recruiting leading international researchers as assistant professors at an early stage of their careers.

The 2026 call focuses mainly on strategic priority areas identified by Lund University's faculties and sustainability – an area in which Lund University is ranked as the world's top institution.
