The AF building – the home of the Academic Society.

The Academic Society ('Akademiska Föreningen' or AF) is a non-profit student organisation run by and for students, with the purpose of gathering and broadening the cultural aspects of student life at Lund University. AF provides the premises and the support functions that allow connected organisations, irrespective of their size, to go through with initiatives that enrich the student life in Lund and that make Lund an attractive place to study.        

The AF building

The AF building (AF-borgen in Swedish), a castle in the middle of Lundagård, is the centre of operations for AF and other student associations. Here you’ll find a variety of activities ranging from sports, politics and music to radio, theatre and 'spex'. The building itself is one of the most famous landmarks in Lund.  

You are always welcome to the AF building to study and socialise. In the building's foyer, you will find the 'Studentinfo' information desk. Here you can buy a cup of coffee, ask questions about student life, as well as buy tickets for events and a selection of university merchandise.

Activities hosted by the Academic Society

The Academic Society hosts a number of activities, such as 'Studentafton' (interviews with high-profile guests), Scandinavia's largest student radio station, student theatre, costume rentals, 'spex' comic musicals, lectures, debates, art exhibitions and cultural events.

The Academic Society has close ties to AF Bostäder and appoints the foundation’s board. AF Bostäder offers a wide range of housing options for students who are members of the Academic Society.

Membership

When you become a member of Studentlund, you automatically become a member of the Academic Society. Benefits of the membership include:

  • the possibility to sign up for the waiting list for student housing offered by AF Bostäder accommodation
  • the opportunity to apply for various scholarships and grants
  • free or reduced entry to various events at the Academic Society
  • the possibility to participate in the Academic Society's activities
  • the opportunity to join various committees and associations and participate in their activities

and more.
