Biology: Genetic Analysis

Genetic analysis is an advanced course covering transmission genetics (including linkage analysis), quantitative genetics and population genetics. It is assumed that the students already have passed a basic course in genetics. The part covering transmission genetics includes both Mendelian and non-Mendelian phenomena. In particular, the students are trained to deduce modes of inheritance from experimental crosses as well as from pedigree data. Another important part is linkage analysis and mapping, where among other things the concept of map-function is introduced. The section in population genetics covers parts of the classical foundations of this subject. Mostly, this section concerns the effect of selection and random effects on allele and genotype frequencies. Through the whole course a strong emphasis is put on problem solving.

Entry requirements
To be admitted to the course, students must have 90 credits scientific studies including knowledge equivalent to BIOA10 Cell and microbiology, 15 credits and BIOA11 Genetics and evolution. English 6/English B.

English language requirements
Most of Lund University’s programmes require English Level 6 (unless otherwise stated under 'Entry requirements'). This is the equivalent of an overall IELTS score of 6.5 or a TOEFL score of 90.
