Application dates

This course provides a fundamental and hands on understanding of bioinformatics, and the tools used in ecology, evolutionary biology and molecular biology. You will learn to use bioinformatics methods to analyse large amounts of sequence data and apply this knowledge to various biological research areas. The course is ideal for those who want to combine biology with data analysis and gain a broader understanding of how quantitative tools and data analysis methods are applied in some of biology’s most active research fields.

Teaching includes lectures, group work, and practical exercises where you will apply bioinformatics tools and methods. You will work with sequence databases, perform sequence comparisons, analyse population genetics, do genomics analyses, study protein structure and conduct phylogenetic inference. Guest lecturers from various research areas will share their experiences and demonstrate how bioinformatics is used in practice. The focus is on understanding and using the methods rather than delving into technical details.

Assessment is carried out in writing through assignments during the course, a written exam at the end, and mandatory course components.

Not available as a stand-alone course
