This course provides an in-depth understanding of how the immune system protects the body and how pathogens cause disease. You will explore infection biology and immunology at the molecular and cellular level, along with epidemiological and evolutionary perspectives.

Application dates

The course in immunology and infection biology provides you with knowledge about innate and adaptive immunity, pathogens and infectious diseases in humans. You will also learn about epidemiology and evolution of infectious diseases, as well as treatments and public health. This course is relevant for those who want a broad perspective on infectious disease, including both mechanistic and evolutionary aspects.

The course consists of three parts:

  • Theoretical part (7.5 credits): Here you will gain an in-depth understanding of the subject through lectures and literature studies.
  • Seminar part (6 credits): You will participate in seminars where you analyse and discuss scientific material with a focus on immunology and infection biology.
  • Laboratory practicals (1.5 credits): Computer-based exercises where you learn basic bioinformatics and genetic analyses.

Examination takes place in the form of a written examination at the end of the course, and through participation in compulsory components during the course.

Prerequisites

To be admitted to the course, students must have 135 ECTS credits in Natural Science studies, including knowledge corresponding to BIOR85 Immunology 15 credits, cell- and molecular biology and/or biochemistry 30 credits, genetics 5 credits, microbiology 5 credits, human -/animal physiology 15 credits and chemistry 15 credits. English 6/English B.

Seats are allocated according to: ECTS (HPAV): 100 %.
