The degree project is an independent project that you carry out in a subject area of your choice, in consultation with your supervisor.
The studies aim to give you the tools to formulate, implement and communicate a research-related project. You will develop your ability to work in a structured and independent manner, and gain insight into how academic knowledge can contribute to understanding and dealing with real-life problems. The work will include both literature reviews and/or field research. The thesis will end with a written report, written in Swedish or English, and a public seminar where you will present your results.
During the course, you will work on your own project - from idea to finished report. In collaboration with a supervisor, you will be supported in developing your research skills and delving deeper into a topic that interests you. You define a research question and investigate it using literature, field data or other methods appropriate to the topic. The work gives you training in information retrieval, analysis and communication. You take responsibility for planning the project design, conducting the research and reflecting on your results.
The thesis can be done within a research group or through collaboration with, for example, companies, authorities or organisations. It gives you the opportunity to link academic theory to practical applications - preparing you for both further study and professional life. At the end of the course, you will write a report presenting your research, and you will present the results at a public seminar - important training in communicating complex ideas to others.
