Preparatory Spanish course for outgoing exchange students

For students going on exchange to a Spanish-speaking university

If you have been nominated for exchange studies at one of Lund University's partner universities in Latin America and Spain, you can apply for a preparatory Spanish language course.

The main aim of the course is to strengthen your language and cultural skills before the exchange. The course will have a particular focus on improving your spoken Spanish. We will also discuss the intercultural perspective to give you a deeper understanding of the linguistic and cultural diversity in Spanish-speaking countries. Safety issues, social norms and other challenges will be discussed as well. In addition, you will meet former exchange students who will share experiences from their exchange studies.

To benefit from the course content, you should have a basic level of Spanish, equivalent to upper secondary school.

This is offered as an evening course to fit in with your schedule and includes both lectures and group exercises. At the start of the course, you will have the opportunity to take a written and oral diagnostic test. The test is followed up so that you can assess your progress at the end of the course.

After completing the course and the final diagnostic test, you can receive a certificate of your Spanish proficiency, which may be used when applying to your host university.

Course period: 26 March to 21 May 2025 (eight sessions)* (dates for 2026 has not yet been determined)
Time: 18:00 to 20:00

Note that this is a non-credit course and cannot be counted towards your degree. The course therefore has no assessed components. However, at some faculties it is an approved activity for a Certificate of International Merit (CIM).

*The course will be cancelled if there are not enough applicants.
