This course introduces you to BI, covering a broad range of technologies, applications, and processes for gathering, storing, accessing, and analysing data. You’ll explore how BI helps businesses make smarter decisions.

BI is a top priority for many organisations, resulting in a high demand for professionals with these skills. This course blends theory with hands-on practice, so you’ll gain both knowledge and practical experience that match today’s job market needs.

You will explore BI at both micro and macro levels, gaining skills in developing BI applications through problem definition, requirement elicitation, and leveraging data to solve them. You’ll also explore how BI affects entire organisations, from data management and integration to data visualisation and governance. The course covers key topics like dimensional modelling, Big Data, scalability, BI governance, privacy, ethics, and AI. By the end, you’ll understand how BI has evolved and how it’s used today.

You will learn through a mix of lectures, seminars, case studies, supervision, and hands-on computer labs. Industry and academic experts will also share their insights through guest lectures.

You will showcase your knowledge through seminars, an individual assignment, and a group project. In the group project, you’ll use Qlik Sense to create a BI application. As a student in this course, you could get Qlik Sense qualifications and certifications as part of your learning experience.
