This course explores how organisations, both in the public and private sectors, can use Information Systems (IS) and Information Technology (IT) strategically to achieve their goals. You’ll learn why managing IS/IT strategically is not just important, but essential to succeed in today’s digital world.
The course will guide you through how to develop, implement, and maintain an effective digital strategy, one that goes beyond technology and focuses on long-term business value.
Through practical frameworks and real-world examples, you will learn how to align digital opportunities with organisational needs, justify investments in IS/IT, and manage systems effectively. Even organisations not aiming for competitive advantage need a clear digital strategy, and this course shows you how to build one.
By the end of the course, you will understand how to connect IS/IT strategy with overall business strategy, avoid common pitfalls, and identify new opportunities driven by technology while remaining grounded in strategic thinking.
Throughout the course, the following areas will be covered:
- Strategic planning
- Alignment of IS and organisation on different levels
- IS service delivery
Learning happens through engaging lectures, interactive seminars, group case studies and supervision. You’ll also get insights from industry experts in guest lectures. You will apply your knowledge through a take-home exam and a group assignment.
