Introduction to Sustainability

The course helps you understand sustainability from a social science perspective. You will learn how to analyse and use sustainability principles in organisations and communities. The first part of the course looks at how the idea of sustainability has developed over time and how it is viewed in social sciences. The second part focuses on how societies can be guided and organised to become more sustainable. 

You will learn how the social, economic and environmental sides of sustainability are connected, and how they influence both organisations and society. The course also helps you practise how to think critically and talk about ways to build a more sustainable future. 

You will take the course with students from the master’s programme in Service Management, specialising in Sustainable Service Management. 

Prerequisites

Bachelor´s degree comprising at least 180 credits (equivalent to a Swedish bachelor´s degree), containing at least 90 credits in social sciences, business administration or equivalent. Oral and written proficiency in English corresponding to English 6/B from Swedish upper secondary school is a requirement. International qualifications will be assessed in accordance with national guidelines.

Seats are allocated according to: ECTS (HPAV): 100 %.
