The course "Social Work in Sweden" is taught in English and provides you with fundamental knowledge about social work in Sweden. You will learn about the actions and contexts of different actors within the private, public, and voluntary sectors. This course is relevant for those who want to understand how social work is conducted in a modern welfare society.

Course literature SOAA02 (PDF, New tab)The course is divided into two parts: theory and practical social work. During the theory part, you will get an introduction to the Swedish welfare society and social work. You will learn about the historical development, current situation, and legal aspects of social work. The second part focuses on field studies and discussions with professional social workers and service users. You will gain insights into different perspectives and practical experiences.
Prerequisites
General requirements and studies equivalent to Swedish Upper Secondary School course Social Studies 1b or 1a1+1a2/Social Studies level 1b or level 1a2
Selection criteria
Seats are allocated according to the following: The general average (GPA) of your higher secondary school leaving certificate: 34 %, The Swedish national university aptitude test: 34 %, number of previous ECTS at application deadline (up to 165): 32 %. If students have equal credentials, seats are allocated based on their results on The Swedish National University Aptitude Test. If this too is equal, seats are allocated based on a draw.

Citizens of countries outside:
- The European Union (EU)

- Switzerland
are required to pay tuition fees. You pay an instalment of the tuition fee in advance of each
semester.

No tuition fees for citizens of the EU, EEA and Switzerland
There are no tuition fees for citizens of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland.
