This master’s programme combines architectural design with advanced computational methods and digital fabrication. It trains future architects to become leaders in a construction industry capable of transformative and sustainable change.

You will gain insights and skills that enable you to become a designer, creator and changemaker, shaping the future of architecture.

The programme focuses on emerging digital design processes that empower architects and redefine the profession. You will learn tools such as programming and parametric modelling and engage with digital fabrication methods including 3D printing and robotics.

It is taught in close collaboration with the bioDigital Matter research group and the Centre for Construction Robotics at Lund University.

Through a multidisciplinary approach and research-by-design methodologies, you will learn how to apply these tools to create sustainable architectural solutions. The goal is to train architects to work with complex patterns and relationships within the built environment and beyond.

All courses within the programme are mandatory with no elective courses.

The teaching combines theoretical knowledge with practical application. You will engage in a mix of lectures, seminars, design studios and workshops. Teaching methods include surveys, site studies, inventories, and critiques with invited professionals. Leading architects and designers are regularly invited as guest lecturers.

Study trips are integrated into the curriculum, offering insights into architectural practices in different cultural contexts. Previous destinations include Spain, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Morocco. Study trips are optional, and students participate at their own expense. Students unable to participate will be given alternative assignments.

The programme benefits from the university’s strong international network and the dynamic Copenhagen–Malmö region, providing a broader context for your studies.

The School of Architecture at Lund University offers state-of-the-art facilities, including personal workspaces, digital fabrication labs with 3D printers and laser cutters, and fully equipped workshops. The programme’s close ties to the architectural community provide a rich learning environment.

The programme is offered by LTH, Lunds Tekniska Högskola (The Faculty of Engineering at Lund University).

Graduating from the programme will give you the skills to work as an architect, with expertise in computational design and digital fabrication. You will be able to apply your knowledge to a wide range of professional tasks within the field of architecture.

The programme’s emphasis on interdisciplinarity and innovation opens career opportunities in architectural firms, design studios, construction companies and research institutions, both in Sweden and internationally.

You will also have the expertise to work as a specialist in computational design within architectural practices and other fields.

The strong foundation in computation, research, and design will prepare you to pursue doctoral studies at research centres around the world.

Applicants for the Master's Programme in Digital Architecture and Emergent Futures are required to submit a digital portfolio, showing your best design works in architecture.

The digital portfolio must be submitted as a single PDF file of maximum 10 MB. In the file you must also include an application summary with a statement of purpose and your CV.
