Description

Suicide research is of importance to find new strategies to prevent suicide. Each year approximately 800 000 people in the world, and 1500 people in Sweden commit suicide. The suicide rate has not decreased over the last 15 years. The Unit for Clinical Suicide Research cover different areas within this field. • Area A: Psychopathology and risk factors. Our group investigates how psychopathology and risk factors interact, if there are any differences between patients with and without a history of a suicide attempt that can inform us about risk for future suicidal acts? Can we identify biomarkers to be used as tools in suicide risk assessment? • Area B: Retrospective studies of the type of health care given to suicide victims. Can we find new health care strategies to prevent suicide risk? • Area C: Treatment studies for patients at risk for future suicide. Our group focus mainly on new treatment strategies for suicide attempters, depression and borderline personality disorder.
