Introduction to Biomaterials

Description

Are you curious about biomaterials and how they are used in various biomedical applications? Do you want to learn the basic characterization methods of different types of biomaterials and be able to describe the basics of drug delivery? Obtain the skills to be able to discuss how tissue engineering and drug delivery have improved people's lives.

KEMA91. The overall objective of the course is to provide students with a basic introduction to biomaterials in biomedical applications and their advantages and limitations. The most important definitions and concepts will be explained and discussed. During the course, related treatments such as sterilization, surface modifications, drug delivery and tissue engineering will be discussed. After completing the course, the students will have acquired knowledge about how tissue engineering and drug delivery have improved people's lives.

Entry requirements

General eligibility and requirements for English proficiency corresponding to English 6 from Swedish upper secondary school, and have passed 30 credits in chemistry courses equivalent to:

KEMA20 General Chemistry, 15 credits, KEMA01 Organic Chemistry - Basic Course, 7.5 credits, and KEMA03 Biochemistry - Basic Course, 7.5 credits

Selection criteria

Seats are allocated according to the following: The general average (GPA) of your higher secondary school leaving certificate: 34 %, The Swedish national university aptitude test: 34 %, number of previous ECTS at the application deadline (up to 165): 32 %.

English language requirements

Most of Lund University’s programmes require English Level 6 (unless otherwise stated under 'Entry requirements'). This is the equivalent of an overall IELTS score of 6.5 or a TOEFL score of 90. There are several ways to prove your English language proficiency – check which proof is accepted at the University Admissions in Sweden website. All students must prove they meet English language requirements by the deadline, in order to be considered for admission.
