Fatema from Bangladesh
What are you studying?
"Currently, I’m studying MSc in European and International Trade and Tax Law, majoring in intellectual property law at Lund University School of Economics and Management."
How did you find out about Lund University/this programme?
"I was always passionate about international law and wanted to have firsthand knowledge. So when I decided to pursue my higher study abroad and started looking for a course in my area of interest, I came across this programme offered by Lund University."
Why did you choose this programme? Why in Lund, Sweden? Why at this faculty?
"The programme structure fascinated me, as it focuses on key practical skills and theories. The specialised courses complemented by research work mean that no side is kept unpolished. Apart from this, I knew the cross-cultural team will give me an invaluable experience that will impart unique advantages. And this programme’s unique and balanced approach will facilitate me to become a complete professional in my desired field."
Why should prospective students choose this programme?
"This programme is designed not only for law students but also for students from management and economics backgrounds. The programme’s specialised courses will prepare you for a career both in academia as well as corporate/industry. The overall education is of high quality and the schooling system is set up well."
What it is like to be an international student at Lund University?
"I love living in Lund and love being an international student at Lund University. The city is safe and easy to get around. Everyone here is very welcoming. As the majority of the Master's programmes are offered in English, it attracts a lot of international students from all over the world, so it is a fun way to meet a lot of new people. I made a lot of friends here and we have had some of the best adventures of our lives. Lund has a thriving student life and it is a great place to study too."
What do you do in your spare time? Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
"Along with my studies, I always engage myself with extra-curricular activities. I believe it is a great way to meet new people and develop my communication skills. Currently, I’m involved with Lund University’s student ambassador programme and working as a student representative for the European University Alliance for Global Health – EUGLOH. I always push myself to go out of my comfort zone and experience new things and travelling on the weekends is one of the best ways to do so. So in my spare time, not only have I been taking trips around Sweden but I am also visiting other countries in Europe to see a bit of what life is like outside of the student city."
What are you planning to do after your studies? What are your plans for the future?
"After completing my studies, I would also love to continue the legacy by taking all the knowledge and exposure back to my home country and setting a trend for this emerging field. My long-term goals include setting up a consultancy firm in Bangladesh that will not only provide practical solutions to issues related to this field but also be a research centre for the development of different areas of trade, sustainability, and intellectual property and continue my work as a lawyer. Moreover, I want to work for the global community and to serve humanity in general."
