The Get Started Funding initiative aims to strengthen research engagement with selected partner universities in countries that have recently joined the Horizon Europe programme. It encourages collaborations across all academic disciplines that have the potential to lead to externally funded research projects and joint publications.

The funding is intended to cover costs for workshops/meetings, travel and accommodation of participants from Lund University and the partner university. Salaries and scholarships are not eligible.

The funding in this competitive call amounts to SEK 32,000 for collaborative activities with partners from

  • Switzerland
  • the United Kingdom and
  • Ukraine 

and SEK 75,000 for activities with partners from

  • New Zealand and
  • South Korea.

The funding is aimed at researchers with a doctoral degree employed at Lund University and research colleagues with a doctoral degree employed at the selected partner universities.

The application can only be submitted by your Lund University colleague. See 'The application process' below.

These are the evaluation criteria:

  • Quality and feasibility of planned activities 
  • Strategic value of the research collaboration
  • Sustainability of the collaboration: potential for subsequent larger collaboration projects and/or to generate external funding.

Priority will be given to applications/applicants that:  

  • clearly demonstrate the potential impact of the proposed activity
  • involve or plan to also involve organisations other than universities from the broader research and innovation eco-system of one or both partner universities  
  • have not previously received Get Started Funding.

The application period is from 26 February to 15 April 2026.

Activities can start after the award has been granted. They must be completed by 1 December 2026.

    • or the University of Melbourne
  • have obtained a doctoral degree.

The funding is aimed at researchers and teachers with a PhD degree employed at Lund University, as well as colleagues with a PhD degree employed at the University of Chicago.

The funds of SEK 75,000 per award, are intended to explore and develop collaborations that have the potential to lead to a sustainable partnership, externally funded projects and/or joint publications/education initiatives.

The activities – joint workshops, meetings or a specific smaller project – can start after the award has been granted and must take place by 1 December 2026.

The call is open for applications in all academic fields.

Activities eligible for funding

  • Workshop/meeting costs (facilities, food, technical support)
  • Travel and accommodation costs for participants from Lund University and University of Chicago in conjunction with visits
  • Direct as well as indirect costs may be covered by the awarded amount

Salary costs and scholarships are not eligible.
