Incidents and accidents

It is important to make a report if you are a student and are involved in an incident or accident while pursuing your studies on campus. You will find information here about what an incident and an accident are and how to make a report should one of them occur.

What are incidents and accidents?

An incident is an event that could have led to an injury or an accident, but which instead ended well. For example, a heavy object might fall from a shelf without hitting anyone, or someone could slip on a wet floor without falling down.

An accident – or an occupational injury – is when an incident causes an injury. For example, a heavy object falls from a shelf, hitting and injuring someone, or someone gets injured from slipping and falling down on a wet floor.

How to report an incident

If you are a student at Lund University and are involved in an incident while pursuing your studies on campus, you are to report the incident to the University. Use the University’s Incident report form.

Please note that the form does not have an accessibility-adapted version. Contact your student health and safety representative if you need help filling out the form.

Send the completed form to your faculty’s work environment coordinator or to your student health and safety representative.

How to report an accident

If you are a student at Lund University and are injured while pursuing your studies on campus, the event is to be reported as an occupational injury through the Swedish Work Environment Authority’s and Försäkringskassan’s (Swedish Social Insurance Agency) electronic service. Depending on the severity of the accident, the report can be sent to both the Swedish Work Environment Authority and Försäkringskassan, or only to Försäkringskassan.

It is advisable to contact your student health and safety representative when you are planning to make a report. They can help make certain everything is correct, and it is a good idea to let them know once the report has been made.

You can also claim compensation through Kammarkollegiet’s (Financial and Administrative Services Agency) personal injury insurance. It is advisable to see a physician to verify the injury. Doing so also makes it easier to claim compensation. Save all the certificates and receipts related to the injury.

Follow-up of the event

All accident and incident reports are to be followed up by your department’s work environment supervisor together with the student health and safety representative. The purpose of the follow-up is to investigate what happened and what can be done to prevent a similar event from happening in the future. Your faculty’s local health and safety committee will also follow up the case (without your identity being revealed).
