Description

Are you curious about the latest techniques in biochemistry, genetic engineering and molecular biology? Do you want to know more about the gene editing process and how this technology is used in daily life? Gain knowledge to be able to discuss how genetic engineering has affected our lifestyle.

KEMA90. The general aim of the course is to enable students to acquire an understanding in biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, and gene editing as well as the latest techniques applied within these fields. During the course, the gene editing process and how the genome sequence works in different organisms will be discussed. After completing the course, students will have acquired knowledge of how these techniques are used in daily life, for example in areas such as food, medicine, diet, and the environment.

Course content

The lectures deals with the latest techniques within biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, and gene editing with emphasis on:

  • basic concepts within biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, and gene editing
  • the gene editing process
  • how the genome sequence works in different organisms
  • different biotechnology applications on plant breeding and foodmtechnology

The course is given in a hybrid mode and can be followed both on campus and online.

Requirements and selection

Entry requirements

General eligibility and requirements for English proficiency corresponding to English 6 from Swedish upper secondary school, and have passed 30 credits in chemistry courses equivalent to:

  • KEMA20 General Chemistry, 15 credits, KEMA01 Organic Chemistry - Basic Course, 7.5 credits, and KEMA03 Biochemistry - Basic Course, 7.5 credits

Selection criteria

Seats are allocated according to the following: The general average (GPA) of your higher secondary school leaving certificate: 34 %, The Swedish national university aptitude test: 34 %, number of previous ECTS at the application deadline (up to 165): 32 %.

English language requirements

Most of Lund University’s programmes require English Level 6 (unless otherwise stated under 'Entry requirements'). This is the equivalent of an overall IELTS score of 6.5 or a TOEFL score of 90. There are several ways to prove your English language proficiency – check which proof is accepted at the University Admissions in Sweden website. All students must prove they meet English language requirements by the deadline, in order to be considered for admission.
