NEW COURSE!
Course name: SOCN23, Sociology: Digital Social Life (Swedish name: Det digitala sociala livet). Advanced level master course (Second Cycle). 7.5 credits. Autumn semester. Language of instruction: English. This course is offered as a stand-alone course and is also compulsory within the Master´s Programme in Sociology SASCO.
Have you ever thought about how the way we interact today, using smartphones and computers, is affecting our society? Texting, emailing, social media posts, video calls, and online gaming are various forms of digital interactions that are increasingly becoming a part of our everyday life.
This course studies the complexities of digital interactions and how they affect society. We will combine theories with real-world examples to help you understand digital social life. You will learn to critically examine and navigate the complexities of digital interactions in today's world.
The course delves into the complexities of digital social life, offering a thorough exploration of this dynamic field. You will examine central themes and concepts in up-to-date research on digital interactions, gaining a deep understanding of the subject.
The course also focuses on developing analytical tools that will enable you to critically examine digital phenomena. To bring these theories to life, you will engage with real-world case studies that illustrate the practical applications of theoretical perspectives.
Teaching will consist of lectures and seminars, and you will be assessed via an individual take-home exam.

Entry requirements
Admission to the course requires 90 credits in a social sciences subject comprising sequential courses. English 6.
Selection criteria
English language requirements
Most of Lund University’s programmes require English Level 6 (unless otherwise stated under 'Entry requirements'). This is the equivalent of an overall IELTS score of 6.5 or a TOEFL score of 90.
