What Théo says about the Master's in Astrophysics
Introducing Théo
Hi! My name is Théo and I'm the student ambassador for the Master's programme in Astrophysics. I am happy to answer any questions you might have about the programme, courses, student life, and life in Lund and Sweden via the Unibuddy Platform, where you can chat with me (see below). Please note that I cannot answer questions about the application process, scholarships, or residence permits.
Why did you choose Lund University?
"A combination of factors led to my decision. Lund University is highly reputed in the natural sciences and offers outstanding Master’s programmes. Additionally, Lund’s student-friendly environment aligned well with my needs. Finally, the close-knit nature of the Astrophysics programme assured me that I would have access to numerous opportunities and receive personalised support in my development."
What are your first impressions of your programme? Does it meet your expectations?
"My first impression was that I couldn’t have felt more welcome. I truly sense a camaraderie among the people in the programme, with everyone supporting each other’s success. It has met my expectations in all the right ways, from the quality of the professors to the resources at our disposal."
What have been the highlights of your first months in Lund?
"I took part in an Astronomy outreach event during Culture Night, where we showed the public around the different telescopes the university has at its disposal. I found this particularly fun, as it helped me get to know the people of the division. I also helped out at the Kalmar Nation pub, where I was able to meet some great folks and experience a Sittning live (as part of the catering staff)."
What do you think of the teaching style in Sweden?
"I think it is very mindful, and I have found it to be highly rewarding. There is much more leniency than what I am used to, but this leniency is not without reason and is very much justified. To add to this, I feel there is a real effort made to adapt to different circumstances. Overall, I find it very natural."
How international is your programme?
"The programme is very international, with most students coming from abroad. We are a small but very diverse group from all over the world. The division itself is equally international."
What are you most looking forward to in your programme?
"I am most looking forward to working on the Master’s thesis, which begins in the second semester of the two-year programme. Given the time and attention that will be given to this project, I know it will be a very interesting challenge. The collaboration and research involved is something I cannot wait to get into."
Stay tuned! A more comprehensive testimonial from this student will be published once they have completed their first semester at Lund and have more insights to share about their programme.
