About the programme and the teaching style
Why did you choose Lund University?
"I chose Lund University because of its strong academic reputation worldwide, diversity of students, and commitment to sustainability. It is also strategically located within Europe, making learning, and traveling fun and within reach."
What do you think of your programme so far? Does it meet your expectations?
"The programme has exceeded my expectations regarding course content/curriculum, faculty members, and overall learning experience. Every lecture is an opportunity to learn something new, mainly because I come from a legal background, and the programme focuses on providing explanations based on the social science aspects of legal phenomena. We have fully committed and passionate professors whose lectures rely on their specific expertise. We also have approachable mentors willing to guide us on practical matters of our studies and academic challenges. Lastly, Lund is such a perfect place for learning as it has state-of-the-art facilities and resources, and its international environment contributes to the vibrancy and quality of holistic education everyone receives. "
What is the best thing about your programme?
"The best thing about the programme is its uniqueness and interdisciplinary nature. It is the combined discipline of both law and social sciences studies. "
What do you think of the teaching style in Sweden?
"The teaching style in Sweden is student-centred and interactive, encouraging critical thinking and independent learning. I love that everyone values the concept of academic breaks, wherein people acknowledge that learning does not need to be continuous and toxic. Breaks are necessary to refresh the minds and optimise learning. "
How international is your programme?
"Our programme comprises of lawyers and social scientists from almost every part of the world. The international experiences and backgrounds of every individual enrich discussions."
Have you been able to gain any practical experience during your studies?
"Yes, we attended the Annual Convention of Sociologists of Law from around the world and sat in on lectures on topics of interest. Meeting prolific and well-known researchers in the sociology of law was a memorable experience for all of us. "
Why should prospective students choose this programme?
"Prospective students may choose Sociology of Law for its faculty, research opportunities, and opportunity to study in an international and dynamic setting. Early on in our studies, we were already encouraged to choose our areas of interest for research. These topics will help us select our elective courses, internship opportunities, and thesis/research topics."
Thoughts on being an international student at Lund, spare time and tips for prospective students
What is it like being an international student at Lund University?
"Being an international student at Lund University can be both rewarding and challenging at the same time. It is rewarding regarding the quality of education, availability of resources, accessibility of services, and richness of experiences you will gain. It could also be challenging, as we study to be the best of the best, but also because of the challenges brought about by the unpredictable weather conditions in Lund. "
What do you do in your spare time?
"During my spare time, I run errands like groceries, do laundry, go to the gym, and sometimes explore Lund and nearby cities like Malmö and Helsingborg, or even Copenhagen. I also discovered my love for cooking and budget traveling here in Lund. I also participate in activities hosted by student organisations."
What have been the highlights of your first year in Lund?
"The highlights of my first year in Lund include forming lifelong friendships with classmates worldwide, learning and embracing the Swedish cultures and language, and the growth one could experience in such a short period. "
Do you have any advice for students that are considering coming to Lund?
"Know yourself and be yourself when choosing the area of study you will pursue. Always consider “why” in every decision you make; learning will be a fun and meaningful experience for you. Lund is such a supportive environment that helps you achieve whatever it is you dream of."
