About the programme and the teaching style
Why did you choose Lund University?
"Sweden has high education standards with Lund University being ranked among the top 100 universities in the world. Specifically, the programme I chose walks you through silicon industry processes preparing you for the market. Finally, Lund is a city of about a hundred thousand people with almost half of its population being students. What else needs to be said?"
What do you think of your programme so far? Does it meet your expectations?
"The programme meets and exceeds my expectations. It allows you to work with state-of-the-art technologies and software. A big plus is that the university is tightly cooperating with big tech companies in the region."
What is the best thing about your programme?
"It gives you unlimited career opportunities. The research in the department is top-notch. As a programme, it is challenging if you are up for it!"
What do you think of the teaching style in Sweden?
"The teaching style allows students to manage their workload effectively. It uses modern techniques and styles that are, from my experience, effective. However, the examination periods are a bit close to each other."
How international is your programme?
"There are students from more than ten countries in my programme. Also, many Swedish students attend the programme's courses, providing a nice cultural blend. This gives you the opportunity to not only to meet many people from around the world, but also to get integrated into Swedish society."
Have you been able to gain any practical experience during your studies?
"Absolutely! The programme is all about practical experience. It is tightly coupled with industry software and the mandatory knowledge required to acquire a position in the future. Cadence, Catapult, and RTL languages are just some examples."
Why should prospective students choose this programme?
"As a programme it goes deep into integrated circuit concepts. Research opportunities are never-ending. Numerous tech companies are cooperating with the university."
Thoughts on being an international student at Lund, spare time and tips for prospective students
What is it like being an international student at Lund University?
"Lund is a student city – it almost feels like a simulation! I have visited many cities in Sweden and the vibe you get from Lund and the university is completely different from what I’ve previously encountered. As a university, it hosts so many international students that the adaptation is natural in my opinion."
What do you do in your spare time?
"In my spare time I play basketball, chess, and the gym has now become a habit for me. Hanging out with friends is always an option for the weekends. I love to travel and being in a new country allows me to take small trips within Sweden and when plane tickets are available and cheap, you can never say no. Also, keep in mind that Copenhagen is less than an hour away!"
What have been the highlights of your first year in Lund?
"I have probably met more people in the last year than I have in the last 4-5 years of my life. It is my first time living abroad for an extended amount of time and such an experience teaches you things about yourself. It gets you out of your comfort zone. Furthermore, expanding my knowledge on certain fields of my domain feels nice."
Do you have any advice for students that are considering coming to Lund?
"If you are an EU citizen, find accommodation ASAP. Get a bike, you won't regret it. Get involved with student groups, it is an amazing opportunity to make friends and expand your activities and knowledge. "
