Innovation support services at the University
The University's innovation activities are centered on using knowledge to improve our world and the human condition. Together with researchers and students, we develop ideas and research findings into innovations. In their turn, these solve serious problems and create value.
LU Innovation
The University's innovation office, LU Innovation, helps students and researchers from all faculties at Lund University to transform ideas and research findings into new products, services or methods.
LU Innovation can help to ensure that research and knowledge are brought into society, by offering
- free idea and innovation development
- advice on patents and legal issues, and
- assistance with funding at different project stages.
The innovation office collaborates with other stakeholders both regionally and internationally. These for example include incubators, financiers and industry networks.
VentureLab – for students
VentureLab is part of LU Innovation and works to encourage entrepreneurship. It helps students and recent graduates who want to develop a business idea or start their own business.
VentureLab offers inspirational activities as well as idea and business development. It also runs the student incubators at Ideon Agora in Lund and at Campus Helsingborg.
The incubators bring together students from different educational backgrounds with ideas in many fields. There are open and creative office spaces as well as a start-up programme based on continuous business development, workshops and lectures.
LU Holding
LU Innovation operates alongside Lund University's holding company, LU Holding AB. The holding company is owned by the Swedish state, but managed by Lund University.
It is commissioned to create new companies based on knowledge and research findings from Lund University. This contributes to sustainable growth and job creation in Sweden.
Since 1999, LU Holding has invested in more than 120 new companies, which together have generated more than 6 000 full-time jobs and over SEK 2.2 billion in tax revenues.

One example is Innovationskontor Syd, which is a collaborative project between the universities in southern Sweden. Another example is Swelife, a strategic innovation programme funded by Vinnova and coordinated by LU Innovation.
