Research at The Department of Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science (INES) aims to increase knowledge on how changes in the climate and environment affect the functioning and composition of ecosystems, and how these changes in turn affect the climate and environment. Research relating to the core theme of characterising and understanding links between ecosystems and climate is divided mainly along methodological lines, with distinct − but overlapping − research groups approaching this overall theme based respectively on field-scale measurement and monitoring ecosystem modelling, Earth observation and remote sensing and spatial analysis. We currently identify the following areas of research at INES: Aquatic biogeochemistry Biogeochemistry Biogeophysics and climatology Ecosystem Ecology Geographic information science Natural resources and ecosystem services in the Anthropocene Reactive trace gases Terrestrial, aquatic and atmospheric processes in the climate system.
