Description

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a medical diagnosis that describes a heterogeneous group of individuals who all have some degree of motor impairment. In addition to motor skills, other functions are often also affected and comorbidity (e.g., epilepsy) and secondary conditions (e.g., pain) are common. Individuals with spina bifida— and often more specifically myelomeningocele (MMC) — also have motor problems, along with problems related to neuro- and urology. Both groups require lifelong multidisciplinary healthcare. In our research group, we work in an interdisciplinary fashion to learn more about people with lifelong disabilities, and their families, from a public health perspective. We are also interested in implementation research to improve the healthcare and living conditions for these individuals. We primarily conduct register research and collaborate closely with the follow-up programs CPUP and MMCUP as well as the user/stakeholder board for CPUP.
