The Arrival Days for international students who are to begin their studies at Lund University in the autumn of 2021 are Monday 16 and Tuesday 17 August. All the events during the reception days and introductory weeks have been adapted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Lund University expects around 2 000 international students this autumn. This year it is anticipated that there will be somewhat fewer exchange students than in previous years as, for example, Australia and New Zealand will not be sending any students in view of the pandemic and closed borders. It is estimated that there will be more international degree-seeking students than in previous years.

The aim of Arrival Days is to welcome the students, provide them with information and ensure that they settle into their accommodation. The students are met at Copenhagen Airport by Lund University staff who help them on their way to Lund’s Central Station, where buses are waiting to take the students to Medicon Village. At Medicon Village the students check in and collect their keys, then transport is arranged to their accommodation. All parts of the procedure have been adapted to avoid the risk of spreading infection.

Adaptations for this year’s Arrival Days include:

  • Arrival Day is spread over two days, instead of one. Monday will be focused on welcoming exchange students and Tuesday is devoted to international degree-seeking students.
  • Staff ensure that recommended social distancing is respected and provide information on the current restrictions.
  • Staff direct students arriving at Copenhagen Airport to the train for Lund.
  • Hired buses providing good social distancing between passengers transport the students directly from Lund’s Central Station to Medicon Village.
  • Arrival Day events are held in spacious premises at Medicon Village that have been adapted to avoid crowding.
  • Hand sanitiser and face masks are available.
  • The students and their luggage are driven from Arrival Days at Medicon Village to the students’ accommodation in minibuses that provide good social distancing between the students.
  • Information material is mainly provided via a digital learning platform.

During the two Orientation Weeks, a programme of events is offered that aims to make the students feel welcome at Lund University and provides opportunities to get acquainted with the city and Swedish culture. This year it will also be a period that offers frequent opportunities to provide information about the recommendations of the Public Health Agency and the University, and show what can be arranged under safe conditions.

Adaptations for this year’s orientation programme include:

  • Only online activities are offered during the first of the two Orientation Weeks. A small number of physical meetings will be arranged during the second Orientation Week.
  • Information meetings, seminars and information fairs are online.
  • Filmed information material is available on the web.
  • Service and assistance is offered via the International Desk’s Zoom drop-in and by telephone and email.
  • During the orientation programme it is also possible to visit the International Desk at the Academic Society’s spacious premises.
  • Social online forum with e.g. quizzes.

Teaching at Lund University in the autumn of 2021:

In short, the updated vice-chancellor's decision from 17 June states that the University will, from the start of the autumn semester, begin gradual and orderly adaptation to educational activities which are not restricted. This entails, among others, that teaching and assessment of study performance may be conducted on the University's premises from the start of the autumn semester. Adaptation is to be completed by 1 November 2021.

Adaptation will take place based on the conditions at each of the organisational units as well as the Government’s and Public Health Agency’s recommendations.
