A total of 4,500 international students have been accepted for studies at Lund University for the autumn of 2024. Among them, 1,000 are exchange students, while the remaining 3,500 include degree-seeking students at both undergraduate and advanced levels, as well as participants in Double Degree, Joint Programs, and Study Abroad initiatives. The duration of their studies ranges from a few months to up to three years. Some students choose to arrive a few days before Arrival Day, while others arrive just as the semester begins. The exact number of students who will commence their studies at Lund University will only be confirmed after the semester starts.
Large student groups from Europe, China and the USA
The new international students represent more than a hundred countries worldwide. The largest groups come from Germany, China, the Netherlands, Italy, the USA, France, Denmark, and the UK.
Arrival Day at Medicon Village
During Arrival Day, the students are directed to Medicon Village, via Copenhagen airport and Lund Central Station. At Medicon Village, they are checked in, given keys to their student accommodation, helped with activating SIM cards, and given the opportunity to talk to a range of organisations that assist them in settling in Sweden.
Sustainable solutions for a large event
The goal of Arrival Day is to create an attractive, seamless, and sustainable experience. The event is continuously refined each semester, with this year’s focus on enhancing sustainability, minimizing material use, and reducing printed materials. Recycling and waste sorting are emphasized throughout both the planning and execution phases. By doing so, new international students are introduced from the outset to the importance of waste sorting in Swedish daily life, as it is practiced in all aspects of society.
A variety of organisations are involved in Arrival Day to promote sustainability and introduce students to eco-friendly choices. The following organisations are participating:
- Circle Center and Erikshjälpen on Öresundsvägen in Lund offer second-hand items such as duvets, pillows, and sheets, while also sharing information about their activities.
- Lund Municipality provides guidance on how students can incorporate sustainable practices into their daily lives.
- Campusbokhandeln offers information on sustainable options for purchasing course literature.
Orientation Weeks
Arrival Day marks the beginning of a two-week reception period known as Orientation Weeks, designed to help international students settle in before the semester starts. The Orientation Weeks program provides an introduction to Lund University, practical information to support your studies and daily life in Lund, as well as insights into student life and Swedish culture.
A Large Event with a Personal Touch
Over 250 staff and student workers at Lund University are dedicated to welcoming international students. With the support of more than 150 international mentors, we are able to offer personalised service to a large number of students, making student-to-student connections an invaluable resource. Nations, student unions, other student organisations, and external partners like AF Bostäder, Lund Municipality, SFI, the Police, and others play a key role in introducing students to life at the university and in Sweden.
Arrival Day and Orientation Weeks are coordinated by Maria Yartseva and Hanna Gustafzelius from External Relations.
