Apply for your degree certificate

When you have completed your studies at Lund University and meet the degree requirements, you can apply for your degree certificate.

Digital degrees from 15 April

During spring 2024, 37 out of 40 Swedish higher education institutions will introduce digital degrees. Lund University will do so on 15 April 2024 for degrees at all levels across all faculties.

This means that you will be notified by email when your degree has been issued, and that you will be able to retrieve it by logging in to Ladok.

There is no limit to how many times you can download your degree certificate. You can also send it digitally to employers and other higher education institutions, for example.

The certificate is instantly verified as it is an electronically stamped PDF file. The stamp confirms that it comes from a credible source and has not been modified after being issued.

Degree certificate and diploma supplement

If your application for a degree certificate is approved, you will receive this document together with an appendix called the diploma supplement. You cannot apply for a diploma supplement separately.

The degree certificate is issued free of charge by the Degree Office, at your request, when you have completed your studies. It is a document written in both Swedish and English. It contains the title of your degree (for example 'Bachelor of Science'), your major and a list of all the courses included in your degree.

Until 15 March 2024, you will receive the original copy of your degree certificate issued in paper form. Please note that this original degree certificate can only be issued once.

From 15 April 2024, your degree certificate will be issued digitally as an electronically stamped PDF file. You will be able to download your digital degree certificate an unlimited number of times. In addition, the Degree Office will continue to provide certified paper copies on request.

There is also an appendix called the diploma supplement (DS). The diploma supplement is written in English and describes the nature, level and content of your education and its place in the Swedish education system. This document promotes the academic recognition and international comparability of your degree, thereby facilitating mobility for either postgraduate studies or employment.

Processing time

The processing time may vary depending on our workload and the nature of your application. The processing time is normally within 60 days, but may be longer in the period June to August.

You need to have completed all courses that are to be included in the degree and you application must be accurate and complete. Otherwise, we cannot start processing it.

Share information about your degree (verification)

You can share information about your issued degree with recipients of your choice, for example an employer.

Log in to Ladok for students and obtain a control code that you can pass on to the recipient. Using the code, the recipient can view details about your degree and the courses it includes.

You may also send a digital degree certificate as an electronically stamped PDF file to an employer or another higher education institution, for example. This applies to degrees issued after 15 April 2024. The Degree Office will continue to provide certified paper copies on request.
