Your student account

As a student at Lund University, you are assigned a so-called student account consisting of a username, a password and a student email address. The student account gives you access to a number of electronic services, including Webmail, Canvas and Ladok.

When you have activated your student account you can use it as a log in to access a number of electronic services, platforms and resources:

Activating your student account

The way you activate your student account differs depending on whether you have applied for degree programmes or courses through the University Admissions in Sweden website ( or are coming to Lund as an exchange student.

If you are a newly admitted student who applied for your studies via, your account will be automatically generated a few days up to two weeks after you have received your Notification of Selection Results PDF via (after your second and final Notification of Selection Results if you applied in the later, Swedish/EU application round). When your student account has been generated you will receive an email (to the email address you submitted when you applied for studies), asking you to activate your account.

Please follow these instructions:

  1. Go to
  2. Click on 'Activate'.  
  3. Click on the 'University Admissions' button and log in with your details from
    Username: The username is your 'Swedish Personal identity number' or the email address you registered for your account. You can find it on your 'Notification of Selection Results', the PDF in your account.
    Password: This is the password you use for your account.
  4. Set up a new password for your account. (And make a note of your password and user name for the future).

If you wish to change your password again later on, please visit and click the 'user button' to log in with your student account details and update your student account password. If you have forgotten your student account password, you can click on the 'University Admissions button', log in with your details from and update your student account password.

Exchange students will receive information regarding their student account by email, one or two weeks before Arrival Day. The email contains your student account user ID and a one-time passcode that you can use to activate your account as well as information about the wireless network at Lund University and how you can configurate your device to connect to it.

Please follow these instructions:

  1. Go to
  2. Click on 'Activate'.  
  3. Click on 'One-time passcode' to log in with your student account ID and the one-time passcode from the email.
  4. Set up a new password for your account. (And make a note of your password and user name for the future).

We recommend activating your student account before your arrival in Lund for the following reasons:

  • By activating your account before you get to Lund, your device can be connected from day one.
  • The one-time passcode for exhance students is only valid for one month – the sooner you activate it, the better.
  • We can always help you set up your student account during Arrival Day and the Orientation Weeks, but it is a busy time for everyone and you may have to wait in a long line to get assistance. We therefore suggest you try and set things up before you get here.

If you want to change your first name in the University’s systems

Do you use a first name other than the one listed in the Swedish population register and would you also like it to be used in Lund University’s systems? In that case, you need to apply to the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket) to make the change.

It is fully possible to change to a gender opposite name, i.e. a name considered typical for a gender other than your legal gender.

If you have a Swedish personal identity number, you can apply for a name change using your Bank ID on the Skatteverket website. After the name change has been approved, which often takes just a few hours, the new name is automatically entered in all of Lund University’s systems, as well as in Ladok.

Students with no Swedish personal identity number who wish to change their name in the University’s systems, from the name they used during application and admission, must present official documentation that confirms the change.

The change may involve some costs, depending on the type of change: 

  • An application to switch first name (from one of your existing first names to another) is free of charge. 
  • An application for a name change (to add, or change to, a completely new first name) costs SEK 250.

Termination of student accounts

Your student account will be deleted shortly after you complete your studies at Lund University. 

One month before the account is deleted, you will be notified of the imminent termination via your student email.

Two weeks later, you will receive a reminder of the termination of your account.

As of the date announced in the notification, your account will be deleted.

  • Make sure to check the email addressed to your student account.
  • Tell anyone who only knows your student email to use a different email address in the future.
  • Take care of any files you have stored on Google Drive, Google Photos and any other services you have used, such as Sites. Note that you should not share the files but that you should download them instead. You can use Google Takeout to download all material at once.

  • If you use Microsoft's OneDrive through your student account, you must take care of all your files there. Also look through any other Office 365 services.
  • Take care of your files in any home directory on university computers (for example at the Faculty of Engineering, LTH).
  • Keep in mind that you need to review most other services and logins linked to your student email (change email address, for example). In this way, you can avoid losing the ability to reset or change your password for those services.
