What Razi says about the Master's in Digital Architecture and Emergent Futures
Razi from Canada
How did you find out about this programme and why did you choose it?
"I found this programme by doing a Google search with the keywords 'computational architecture Europe'. At the top of the list was the Lund University Digital Architecture programme. I chose this programme due to the subject specificity and the experience of exploring Scandinavia."
What do you think about your programme so far? Does it live up to your expectations?
"Yes, definitely! The studies in Lund are quite radical to my previous education. The programme and its courses satisfy my expectations. I really feel I came to the right place. The diversity of tools used I believe will really enable my prospects for career choices."
What is the best thing about your programme?
"The best part of the programme is definitely the openness to creativity, while utilising many forms of digital fabrication for design. Nevertheless, the introduction to programming is where I seek my interest."
What do you think of the teaching style at Lund?
"The key words to describe the teaching style here that come to mind immediately are: open, exploratory, low-stress, helpful and engaging! The university investment in education comes from a different perspective here. It allows students to feel relaxed."
Why should prospective students choose this programme?
"Prospective students should choose this programme if they want to explore utilizing various fabrication methods and digital technologies (e.g. robots) and experience the world of programming and its thinking process in architecture."
Have you been able to gain any practical experience during your studies so far?
"As this is my second semester in this programme, I was fortunate to go on a study trip to Morocco. Vernacular architecture and traditional buildings were the main discussions of the studio course there. Aspects of the trip included staying in a mud kasbah in an ancient mud-constructed town, sleeping under the stars in the middle of the desert, learning the rammed earth technique used to build and renovate, bargaining in the busy streets of colourful Marrakech and enjoying the sun and wind on the beaches of Agadir. It was an eventful, educational, and one-of-a-kind trip that I will cherish for many years to come."
How international is your programme and what is it like to study in that kind of environment?
"The programme is diverse, as international Master’s students from all over the world participate in design studios alongside our Swedish pupils. Among such an international crowd, many things are learned, shared, and communicated. We get to know architecture through ideas from all over the world."
What it is like to be an international student at Lund University?
"Being an international student is a slightly different experience of course, as it is a Swedish-speaking country. But internationals in Lund are welcomed with open arms, and English is spoken throughout the country."
What do you do in your spare time?
"I am very active and participate in sports and the gym. The nations and events held throughout campus are also great places to pass the time."
Do you have any advice for other students who are considering coming to Lund?
"Don’t be afraid to loosen up and embrace your studies. Students will experience an excellent study-life balance here to focus on life after school."
