Narmin Hushmandi, researcher and teacher
What is your educational background?
"I have an MSc in Sustainable Energy Engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden (graduated 2005) and a PhD in Energy Technology, also from KTH (graduated 2010)."
Do you have any experience from industry?
"My Master's and Doctoral thesis projects were in direct collaboration with Siemens Industrial Turbomachinery AB, in Finspång, Sweden, and I spent some time there, but my workplace was mainly based at the University because we had the complete setup of the facility inside the university laboratory."
What drew you to a career in academia?
"My interest in continuous learning and research, especially in the turbomachinery field, which is my main focus."
What are your research interests?
"Industrial axial and radial turbomachinery, renewable energy technologies and computational fluid dynamics."
What are your most recent publications?
"ASME Turbo Expo Conferences, Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer (Springer), ASME Journal of Turbomachinery."
What is your driving force as a teacher?
"My interest in transferring my knowledge and experience to the youngsters and guiding them to gain interest in the energy technology fields, especially renewable technologies."
Is there any cutting-edge research going on in the department that the students benefit from? If yes, how?
"Yes, we have several joint projects with different industries and research groups at various universities. Interested students can get involved with the projects as soon as they have finished the course part of the programme. We also have good opportunities for doctoral studies for the students with excellent performance who have finished their Master's degree with us."
Do you have any more thoughts you want to share with prospective students?
"In my opinion, sustainable energy engineering is one of the most important technology fields to shape our societies and the planet’s future."
What course(s) are you teaching?
"I am mostly involved with thermal turbomachinery courses."
