What Teresa says about the Master's in Machine Learning, Systems and Control
Teresa from Germany
What is your background?
"I am from Germany originally. I studied biomedical engineering for my Bachelor’s at the University of Stuttgart. Then I came to Lund for my Master's in Machine Learning and Control."
How do you like the programme so far?
"The courses are all very good and the programme is great. It has been very practical so far with many hands-on assignments like actual programming and problem-solving. The professors are great and the assignments are close to real-life applications which means you actually get to learn relevant things. There is a great network here as well. Many of my classmates last year had internships at some of the major companies here in Lund."
How is Lund compared to Germany?
"The classes are completely different. Here, we have a lot of assignments and labs. During my Bachelor’s, I was always waiting until the end of the course to do anything but at Lund, you are constantly building your knowledge as you go."
Do the professors encourage a healthy learning environment?
"Yes, most of my professors have been very good, even though it has all been online because of Covid. The professors have been very encouraging reaching out with project ideas, support and answers to my questions. I like the teaching style!"
How international is the programme?
"In my year, we are eleven people from eleven different countries. It’s great to meet so many people from different parts of the world. I am very involved in student life here in Lund, so I have a lot of Swedish friends as well. I felt very welcome here from the start and everyone is open-minded. I also get to try some great food here from different countries."
How are the extracurriculars here at Lund?
"I take part in the Faculty of engineering guild, like a student union, which has offered a great opportunity to meet people. The highlight was the 'nollning', the introduction weeks where you do a lot of fun activates with other new students. The sittings are also great and the after parties are so much fun as well."
Do you like living in Sweden?
"Yes, it’s great! The atmosphere in Lund is so nice – filled with students everywhere you go! Despite the bad weather during some seasons, I feel at home here in Lund."
Do you have any advice for prospective students?
"I would recommend you come to Lund. It has been a very positive experience so far. I like the student life and the academic life. My advice is to bring a rain jacket, be open to trying new things and don’t be scared of any cultural barriers."
Do you have any plans after your studies?
"I hope to study for a PhD after graduation, hopefully in Lund."
