What Andrea says about the Master's in Public Health
Andrea from South Africa
"Moving 10,000km away from my coastal home in Durban, South Africa all the way to the vibrant, multi-cultural city of Malmö in Sweden was certainly a life-defining moment for me. Studying abroad has broadened my horizons in many ways. Academically, I have been able to explore my interests in a supportive learning environment while learning practical knowledge and skills that will take me further in my career as a public health practitioner. The lecturers are passionate educators who use different pedagogical approaches to make our learning experience active and participatory.
The Master's in Public Health has allowed me to explore the many aspects of health and has broadened my understanding of health systems, health policy and population health. My most important consideration when choosing this programme was my ability to shape my own learning experience. The programme has given me an opportunity to explore my interests and choose the direction for my studies. There is a strong research approach to the course that gives students a strong start towards research-based careers and further education.
I have loved engaging with a diverse group of students from different countries and professional backgrounds. Lund University provides its students with a unique international student experience that contributes to a great sense of community in both the academic program and in other social communities. There are many opportunities to engage in leadership roles, social committees and student-led events. From a personal perspective, moving to a new country and experiencing a completely different way of life has been both exciting and challenging for me. Integrating into, and learning about, a new culture has given me a new perspective and has broadened my worldview quite significantly. It has also given me a new appreciation of home which was something new and unexpected!"
